Cass County Sheriffs Office Warns of Scam

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office would like to warn individuals of a current scam affecting citizens around the state. People are receiving phone calls from a phone number that appears to be from an actual Sheriff’s Office. The caller advises their victims to call a New York phone number to pay a fine to place their case on hold.

The caller is using technology called “Spoofing” which allows people change their Caller Id to another phone number.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office does not contact people to solicit money for any reason. The Sheriff’s Office does occasionally have to contact people for legitimate reasons, however asking for money is not one.
