Search for man wanted in Atlanta slayings brings marshals to KC

Donnell Rawls
KANSAS CITY, Mo. —U.S. marshals are searching in Kansas City for a man who’s accused of beating his pregnant girlfriend to death.

The crime took place in Atlanta in February, but investigators believe Donnell Rawls might be in Kansas City because he has friends, family members and known associates in the area.

Police said the slaying of Amber Beckwith, 27, was one of the most gruesome scenes they have ever seen. They said she was six months pregnant with Rawls’ unborn child at the time she died. Rawls has been charged with both deaths.

Rawls, 40, is black, 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighs 175 pounds and has a tattoo on his left shoulder of a baseball with two crossed bats. Police said he should be considered armed and dangerous.

“He has an extensive criminal history,” said Marshal Mike Stokes.

His previous charges include robbery, kidnapping, burglary and providing false information to police.

Investigators have previously searched for him in Georgia, Florida and Texas.
"He's led investigators across several states since the time of the homicide and they've yet to locate him anywhere," Stokes said.

Anyone with information about Rawls is asked to call the Crime Stoppers TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477 or call investigators directly at 816-918-5021.
