CICIG and MP fill Guatemala's prisons

Guatemalan authorities arrested Otto Perez Molina's son-in-law (daughter's fiance here) yesterday for alleged influence trafficking. Gustavo Martinez's arrest, and those of several others including , "involves bribes and influence trafficking aimed at favoring a private power generation company." Martinez had served as Perez' private secretary until he stepped down under clouds of suspicion in April.

That's only one of three cases of influence trafficking that the MP and CICIG tackled yesterday. See here, here and here. A busy day - an end to impunity?

I'm off to El Salvador in the morning. Shoot me an email if you'd like to meet up.
