School is deadly in El Salvador

Approximately 50 Salvadoran schoolchildren have been murdered on their way to or from school so far this year (see also Where to be young is a crime).

The teachers are at risk when they are threatened by gangs for doing their jobs.

Employees from the Education Ministry are at risk as they sometimes have to negotiate with gang members in order to access schools located in gang-controlled territories.
