Hernandez leads in Honduras

Hondurans will go to the polls in November to select their next president. A recent CID/Gallup poll has current President Juan Orlando Hernandez of the National Party comfortably in front of his nearest rivals.

Hernandez has the support of 36 percent of all Hondurans. In second place with 18 percent is Luis Zelaya of the Liberal Party. LIBRE's Xiomara Castro has 12 percent support and independent Salvador Nasralla 11 percent. Castro finished second and Nasralla fourth in the 2013 presidential election.

Hernandez is hoping that improved security (at least in terms of lower homicide rates) and moderate economic growth (3.7 percent in 2016) will propel him to reelection.
