VP Pence to meet with Northern Triangle presidents
Vice President Joe Biden was the country's point person for working with our Northern Triangle partners during the Obama years. Given the challenges confronting El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras, it was important to have a person in the White House dedicated to the region.

The White House says Vice President Mike Pence will meet with three Latin American leaders and address economic and security issues in Central America during an appearance at a conference in Florida later this month.
Pence will give the keynote address at the Conference on Prosperity and Security in Central America in Miami on June 15, the White House says.
Following his address, the vice president will meet with President Salvador Sanchez Ceren of El Salvador, President Juan Orlando Hernandez of Honduras and President Jimmy Morales of Guatemala.
The White House says the meetings will focus on improving security, governance and economic prosperity in the Northern Triangle countries. The left and right pressured the Obama administration to approach the Salvadoran, Honduran, and Guatemalan governments through partisan lenses. Instead, the administration tried to take partisan politics out of the relationship. The crisis in Central America was too important to get sidetracked by partisanship. The Trump administration gives little reason to believe that it will follow the same plan but this meeting might give us a better look into how the Trump administration envisions moving forward in the country's relationship with the Northern Triangle.
