That's original..Posing as DEA agent to extort mayor in El Salvador

We often hear about cross border crime between El Salvador and the United States involving street gangs and drug and human trafficking organizations. In the last days, however, authorities arrested Rafael Flores and Santos Edgardo Guzman Ayala in El Salvador.

They were caught in an undercover sting operation as they “demanded” $15,000 from a politician in exchange for not damaging his “image and prestige.” At the time, they were impersonating agents of the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA).
Rafael Flores, a political operative and one-time surrogate for Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano in the Latino community, was charged with extortion in El Salvador on Tuesday after prosecutors said he impersonated a U.S. drug enforcement agent in a plot to extort a local mayor.
Flores, 45, who lives part-time in East Meadow, also serves as a Hispanic outreach liaison for the National Diversity Coalition for Trump, which supported President-Elect Donald Trump’s campaign.
Flores’ brother, Herberth, is the deputy director of Nassau’s Office of Minority Affairs.
The Flores brothers deny the charges. However, this was not the first time that Rafael Flores was involved in criminal activities as he and his bother pleaded guilty to attempted bribery in an insurance scam on Long Island in 2005.

Flores previously gained notoriety in 2012 when he arranged Vice President Salvador Sanchez Ceren's visit to Long Island. Sanchez Ceren's visit was made with protests because of his attendance at a 2001 rally to celebrate the country's independence day during which time protesters allegedly took the opportunity to demonstrate their support for the terrorist attacks against the United States which had happened days earlier. He sounds like a shady character both criminally (insurance scam to DEA extortion scam) and politically (Sanchez Ceren to Trump).

Flores arrest is another example of the unfolding criminal dynamics between the Salvadoran communities in the US and El Salvador.
