Guatemala's next Attorney General

President Jimmy Morales's actions in office have given little reason to trust his commitment to tackling corruption and further strengthening Guatemala's rule of law. Until proven otherwise, the selection of María Consuelo Porras as Attorney General casts further doubt on Morales's commitment, and that of the entire political establishment, to strengthening the country's judicial institutions.

Let's hope that the lack of faith that we have in Porras' selection will have been unwarranted in the same way that the Guatemalan people and international community were pleasantly surprised by Thelma Aldana's performance after a questionable selection.
