There was a Sheriff’s Deputy on the 52 Highway East exit and observed a car matching the description of the pursuit vehicle that exited off I49 at 52 East. The vehicle came up the ramp and then back down the ramp back onto I49. The Deputy confirmed that it was the vehicle from the pursuit by observing the license plate. The Deputy initiated his lights and sirens as the vehicle merged onto I49. The vehicle then crossed over the median into the southbound lane and continued to travel northbound. The vehicle traveled approximately a half mile before turning around and traveling southbound. The vehicle then exited of I49 at the 52 east exit and traveled west on to the gravel. The vehicle then traveled south on gravel roads until he reached old town and crossed under I49 and then traveled northbound.
During the pursuit deputies were able to get in a position to deploy spike strips and were able to deflate all four tires on the suspect's vehicle. The vehicle made it back to East 52 Hwy and started to drive westbound toward I49. The Deputies then decided to perform a rolling roadblock to prevent the vehicle from making it back to I49 where there was more traffic.
The suspect pulled the vehicle over and began to eat bags of white crystals believed to be methamphetamines. The suspect refused to exit the vehicle. Deputies were able to get the driver’s door open by breaking the glass on the passenger side of the car and unlocking the doors. As the suspect exited the vehicle he began to throw punches toward the arresting Deputies. One of the K9s was deployed and bit the subject on the leg. During the struggle the Deputies were able to retrieve from the suspect's mouth one bag of white crystal substance that field tested positive for Methamphetamine. The driver and the passenger was taken into custody and transported to the Bates County Memorial Hospital. The driver was then transported to a hospital in Kansas City for digesting a large amount of Methamphetamine.
The driver of the vehicle was a suspect and wanted on a stop and hold order out of Kansas City area for an Armed Robbery of a Pappa Johns restaurant on 7/11/15. It was believed that this is the same car that the Raytown Police were involved in a pursuit after the robbery on 7/11/15.
Two Bates County Deputies received minor injuries during the arrest and were treated at the Bates County Memorial Hospital and released. Charges are being reviewed by the Bates County Prosecutors Office
