Replace TPS with path to citizenship

The Salvadoran government is rightfully concerned with the possible loss of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for nearly 200,000 of its citizens living in the US. For the last few years, the Salvadoran government held out hope that the US would pass comprehensive immigration reform. It did not focus on permanent solutions for those with TPS, or even Dreamers.

While the majority of Americans tend to support comprehensive immigration reform and a path to citizenship for many of those living in the country without documents, there is little hope of that occurring with Donald Trump as president. His minority views will most likely carry the day. As a result, the Salvadoran government looks to be moving to protect its citizens who currently enjoy TPS.

Their concerns rightfully intensified following the Trump administration's recent six-month renewal of TPS for Haitians in which it indicated that this might be the last extension for Haitians.

Salvadorans have benefited from TPS for nearly two decades. In the past, I've called for an end to TPS for Salvadorans. That's still the best solution.

Replace TPS with a path to citizenship.
